Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a woman whose badly decomposed body was found several years ago in North Knoxville.
Even if they’re unable to solve the mystery of what happened to her, police would at least like to find out who she was.
To further that end, experts from the FBI have created a portrait based on a facial reconstruction of the woman’s skull and are distributing it across the area in the hope that someone might recognize her.
“On November 23, 2016, Knoxville Police were led to an area, frequented by homeless, behind the Best Value Inn on Merchants Drive where the skeletal remains of an unidentified female were found,” Erland said.
“My understanding is that the cause of death is unknown due to the severe state of decomposition when the victim’s remains were located. So, it is considered an unknown death. The victim was never successfully identified through any available avenues, but the FBI was able to do a facial reconstruction based on the skeletal remains,” he said.
Police are asking that anyone with information about the unidentified woman to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers online at www.easttnvalleycrimestoppers.org or via the free mobile app P3 Tips.
