One person was seriously injured when a North Knox County house was consumed by flames early Saturday morning, according to the Rural Metro Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 4:40 a.m. at 4815 Garfield Terrace Drive. When Rural Metro crews reached the property they saw flames coming from the roof and front of the house.
They also found an occupant of the house, described only as a male, who needed medical treatment after trying to extinguish the blaze themselves before fire crews arrived. He was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center “in what is considered to be serious condition,” a Rural Metro press release said.
“The family dog was rescued but the house was a total loss,” the release said.
It wasn’t clear if any other people were in the house when it caught fire but officials said there were no other injuries.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation Sunday, a Rural Metro spokesperson said.
