A Rural Metro firefighter has been lightly injured and all lanes of Asheville Highway in East Knox County closed as fire crews try to extinguish a blaze that has heavily damaged a house, authorities say.

The fire was reported about 3:40 p.m. and when crews reached the house at 7307 Asheville Highway “they found fire visible from the front side extending into the attic,” a Rural Metro press release says.

The blaze is under control but firefighters had to close all four lanes of the busy highway in order to access a hydrant, the release says.

No one was home when the fire broke out and the cause is under investigation.

A firefighter was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center “for evaluation of a potential leg injury,” according to the release.

Asheville Highway will be closed until the fire has been put out and fire crews are able to clear out their equipment.
